Malaria, a dangerous illness spread by infected mosquitoes, is a big problem globally, especially in warm regions. It's caused by tiny parasites that infect our blood cells, making us sick with symptoms like fever and chills. Without quick treatment, it can get really bad and even deadly, especially for kids and pregnant women.

Every year on April 25th, we observe World Malaria Day to remind everyone about the importance of fighting malaria. On the occasion of World Malaria Day 2024, it’s time to talk about how to prevent and treat it and to show what progress we have made. Governments, groups, and individuals all join in with activities like talking to communities, teaching about malaria prevention, and raising money for research.

India deals with about 3% of all malaria cases worldwide, so it's crucial to spread malaria awareness to make sure everyone knows how to stay safe. Dr. Mohan Kumar Singh from Marengo Asia Hospital in Gurugram has some health tips -

Wear long clothes and light colours to avoid mosquito bites, especially at dawn and dusk.

Use mosquito nets treated with bug spray when sleeping to keep mosquitoes away.

Remove any standing water near your home where mosquitoes breed.

Consider using insecticides inside your home to kill mosquitoes.

If you have symptoms like fever and headache, see a doctor right away.

Stay in places with screens on windows or air conditioning to keep mosquitoes out.

Talk to your doctor before travelling to places where malaria is common to get the right medicine.

If you have had malaria, here's how to ensure quick recovery -

Finish all your medicine, even if you feel better.

Rest a lot until you feel fully recovered.

Drink plenty of fluids, like water and juice.

Eat healthy foods to help your body heal.

Keep avoiding mosquito bites even after you're better.

Always follow your doctor's advice.

By following these tips, we can work together to beat mosquito-borne diseases and keep ourselves and our communities safe.
